Black Friday Tips for 2019

With Black Friday on the horizon, Britain’s savvy shoppers will be looking for the best deals. With Christmas just around the corner, there isn’t a better time to make some huge savings. Where you'll find everything from tech and gadgets to clothes and furniture. But this day of sales isn’t for the fainthearted. So this post will give you some tips on how to shop the Black Friday Sale. These Black Friday online shopping tips are going to help you be stress-free during a busy day in the shopping calendar.

It’s fair to say that our American friends have a much bigger interest in Black Friday than us Brits. Although we are well known for our orderly queuing techniques, the scrum-like scenes from 2013 have certainly put a lot of British consumers off the idea of going to the shops on Black Friday.

But that doesn’t mean we’ve been put off the idea of the sale altogether. As online sales mean you can make a saving without leaving your bed. Britain’s love a bargain and the idea of getting one from the comfort of your home sounds even better. You’ll need to prepare for it well in advance, so this Black Friday advice is sure to help.

When is it?

Firstly you need to get the right date. This year's Black Friday is on 29th November, but you’ll need to be preparing well in advance if you want to make the most of the day that’s full of sales! We’ve brought you seven tips to help you buy everything you need with the minimal amount of fuss, all from the comfort of your own home.

1. Turn Notifications On

To find the best things to buy on Black Friday its always good to follow social media accounts of websites and shops that you want to shop at. If you really want to be on top of the game, turn notifications on so you can get regular updates from your fav shops. Individual high-street retailers will tweet deals throughout the day so having notifications on ensures you won’t miss out.

2. Black Friday? Or Black Week?

Black Friday was once a single day in the year the day after Thanksgiving (which always falls on the fourth Thursday of November) where retailers discounted prices on Friday due to the number of people off work. More recently, however, the day sees discounted prices days before, sometimes weeks and in some cases the entire month of November. This is why keeping up to date with deals is vital as you don’t want to miss out on a bargain because you think the only day to save is the day itself.

3. Early Bird Catches the Worm

Keeping on a similar theme, you must start your shopping early. Online you’ll often find shops drop prices as soon as the clock strikes twelve. Depending on what you’d prefer you can stay up late into the night to make huge savings on the products you are after. Or you can wake up at around 3 am which is when traffic is at the lowest point over the day of Black Friday. Most deals will be live by 9 am. So at least make sure you are online before then to get all the sales you want.

4. Plan Your Day

This is a crucial aspect of Black Friday, as you'll save even more money on products. You can often find yourself scrolling aimlessly without any idea of what it is you want in the hope of saving a few hundred quid. This is a technique that will undoubtedly see you lose out on money as you’ll end up purchasing items you don’t want or need. Compile a list of items you want and order them from most to least important. And remember Christmas isn’t far away, so there isn’t a cheaper time for buying presents for friends and family.

5. Set Up Your Accounts

Having accounts on websites like Amazon and high street retailers will save you time as you shop around. They’ll only be limited items that are on sale so make sure you own an account before Black Friday. The time spent signing up for an account could be the difference between you getting a T.V or piece of furniture or just missing out.

Signing up for particular websites before the big day will mean you’ll get regular updates and deals sent to you via email. This way you’ll make loads of savings and can be on the ball, allowing you to find discounted products before anyone else.

6. Don't Go Over Budget

Set yourself a budget before you start shopping, this way you won’t get carried away and add absolutely everything you see to your basket when there is money to be saved. Another tip is to not buy products due to it having a considerable discount. Shops often raise prices before Black Friday, so it appears that you have made a saving. Don’t be fooled, when it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

7. Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday originated in America due to the National Retail Federation noticing a significant increase in the sales of lifestyle products on the Monday after Black Friday. However, the idea of specific products being sold on Cyber Monday is no longer the case.

Originally Black Friday sales were almost exclusively available in-store. But with the shift to online shopping, this is now a much more even spread. Cyber Monday as the name suggests is products sold solely with a discount online.

Cyber Monday gives you an extra day to purchase gifts for yourself or friends and families Christmas presents. Stores will often save items for Cyber Monday, but the best deals do tend to be on Black Friday.
