Have you recently moved to a bigger home? Or has your teenager finally left the family home for university or work? Well, that’ll mean you could be left with a spare room. So, instead of leaving it to gather dust you should make the most of the space and turn it into a room that you’ll love. With our tips below you’ll have a spare room that won’t go to waste. So, read on below and make the most of your spare room.

Bedroom

The easiest and probably the most obvious tip is turning your room into a bedroom for guests. Having your friends and family over can often feel cramped and overcrowded, especially if it's the in-laws staying for a weekend. So, instead of them sleeping in the living space or on a blow-up mattress or sofa bed, turn your spare room into a guest bedroom, so they can feel at home.

Gym

Wanting to get fit? Well, with a home gym you have no excuses! We think turning your spare room into a gym is a great idea. You can stop paying £30 a month on a gym membership and work out at home without having to wait for a machine or feeling self-conscious. We suggest your home gym starts with weights, a bike or treadmill. And the more you use your space and the more money you save from your lack of monthly gym payments you should invest it back into your own gym.

Games room

Whether it's for you or the kids, a games room is a great way of making the most of a spare room. Set up your entertainment hub with TV’s, PlayStations or whatever your preferred games console is and unwind. Add in LED lighting, so those late-night games feel even cooler.

Office

Most of us have been working from home since last March, but that doesn’t mean we’ve done so in comfort. Sitting with your laptop as you lay in bed does sound like bliss but it’s not fun when you start to get uncomfortable. So, why don’t you turn your spare room into an office space?

Cinema room

Movie nights, every night? Go on then. Let's turn your spare room into a cinema room, so films and TV series can be watched in a super-cool space. Choose between a large TV or projector and fill the room with sofas, bean bags and comfy must-haves. If you’re wanting to make it extra special add LED lighting for the ultimate cinema experience.

Reading room

If you’re needing a little me time and want to get out of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then a reading room will be right up your street. We’ve got loads of accent chairs here at Lifestyle Furniture that are perfect for a reading room. Go big or go home is what we say when it comes to reading chairs, check ours out here and turn that unused spare bedroom into a quiet and cosy reading room.

Dressing room

Some of you (us included) have always dreamt of having a dressing room. A space for you to make yourself look and feel good. Turning your spare room into a dressing room might take a little haggling with your partner, but we’re sure they’ll agree on it. Especially if it means your messy make-up haul is out of the bedroom! Why don’t you check out our collection of dressing or console tables, perfect for a dressing room?

Children's playroom

If we’re talking about preventing messiness, then a children's playroom is a brilliant idea to utilise your spare bedroom. You can make this place an area where your kids can do whatever they like (within reason). Let them throw their toys around a dedicated room, rather than the entire house. And you can even turn the walls into colouring in walls, so your kids can go wild, without ending up on the naughty step.

Spare bathroom

This is probably the most expensive of our tips for a spare room. A spare bathroom will not only make your life easier but it’ll also add value to your home if you’re looking to sell it in the future, so it's certainly something you should consider.

A pets room

Pets are just as much of family homes as the people who live there, whether it's a dog, cat or even a budgie! So, instead of leaving your beloved pet in a cage or a bed, why don’t you give him or her their own room? Fill it with their favourite toys, so they feel right at home. Make sure they’ve got food and water and plenty of space to run around.
